About Anna Rolls
In the summer of 2003 Anna graduated from the University of Brighton with BA (Hons) in Three-Dimensional Craft. It was there that she learnt about working with different materials, and where she developed a love for sculpting in metal, especially using the techniques of forging and welding.
The inspiration for her work comes from her keen interest in wildlife and particularly birds. Via many observational drawings of the birds around her, she creates sculptures that capture the form and characteristics of the birds they represent.

Although the materials used to fabricate each bird have varied, Anna's technique involves building up form using many mass-produced or similar units such as nails, knives or chip forks to create very detailed form. More recently she has started to create sculptures made from her own massed produced units, utilising processes such as forging and raising on steel bar and plate.
Anna is currently in West Sussex at West Dean College, where she has won two scholarships to study for an MA in conservation and restoration of fine metalwork for one year. Although coping with a hectic schedule she is still available for private commissions, but will be back to the workshop full time in September ‘08.
